Harry Potter” star Emma Watson announced earlier this week that she’s taking a break from her studies at Brown University, where she is a sophomore history major, because she found that juggling her responsibilities as a student and her professional commitments had become “a little too impossible.”
She cited her continued work on the film “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2,” which is in post-production and scheduled for a July 15 release, as one of the reasons she’s leaving Providence. That final film in the series, in which she plays young witch-in-training Hermione Granger, is essentially finished except for publicity commitments.
Her next film will be “My Week With Marilyn,” which also is in post-production. The plot revolves around an employee of Laurence Olivier who documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of the 1957 film “The Prince and the Showgirl” in London. Oscar nominee Michelle Williams plays the blonde bombshell, Kenneth Branagh is Olivier, Julia Ormond is Olivier’s then-wife Vivien Leigh and Watson plays a character named Lucy. The film is expected to be released later this year.
Watson is also scheduled to work later this year on the film “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” which is currently in pre-production. The film will be shot in the Philippines and costar Logan Lerman, Oprah Winfrey and Larry David. It is scheduled for a 2012 release.
